🟣 Lumi Place Sunday Food Redistribution – The Most Beautiful Chaos in New Ferry

🌍 What Is Sunday Redistribution?

Lumi Place Sunday Food Redistribution is our weekly “rescue mission.”

We collect surplus food from supermarkets — perfectly good, fresh, beautiful food that would otherwise end up in landfill — and we redistribute it to the community.

Not with forms. Not with interrogations. Not with judgement.

Just food.

Because food should be eaten. Not wasted.

🥕 How It Works (Simple. Very Simple.)

  • Bags are pre-packed full of goodies

  • Bakery items are outside on a help-yourself basis

  • You come between 9–10 AM

  • You take what you need

  • You Pay What You Can

That’s it.

No income checks. No awkward questions. No clipboards chasing you down Bebington Road.

💜 Why We Do It

As many of you know, Lumi Place CIC is a self-funded Community Interest Company. That means:

  • We don’t have corporate sponsors.

  • We don’t have CEO yachts.

  • We don’t have “administration fee” black holes.

Every pound goes back into keeping the doors open and keeping food on tables in New Ferry.

Sunday redistribution helps:

  • Families feeling the pressure of rising costs

  • Elderly residents who can’t stretch the pension any further

  • People between jobs

  • And yes — anyone who simply believes food waste is madness

🧃 What’s In The Bags?

It changes every week. That’s part of the fun.

You might get:

  • Fresh fruit & vegetables

  • Bread and pastries

  • Crisps (bonus happiness level unlocked)

  • Tinned or dry goods

Sometimes it’s like MasterChef Mystery Box.Sometimes it’s “Oh wow, avocados again!”Sometimes it’s 17 cucumbers and destiny.

We embrace the unpredictability.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 The Real Power: Community

Our volunteers (aged approximately 33 to 84 — yes, really) sort, pack, lift, laugh, organise and occasionally argue about banana ripeness — all before most people finish their first coffee.

It’s not glamorous.

It’s heavy lifting. It’s early mornings. It’s 400 miles a week of food pickups. It’s petrol, electricity, rent and stubborn determination.

But it’s worth it every single Sunday when we see people walking away with full bags and lighter hearts.

💬 Pay What You Can

Some give £3.Some give 50p.Some give nothing — because that’s what they can afford that week.

And that’s okay.

Because this is redistribution. Not retail.

🕘 Sunday: 9:00–10:00 AM

Come early. It gets busy.Bring a bag if you want.Bring a smile if you can.

And if you’ve never been before — don’t be shy.

We’re just neighbours helping neighbours. Slightly chaotic. Slightly sarcastic. Fully committed.

See you Sunday. 💜
